Student Expectations

 

  • You are in evening school to get your education and earn credits that will lead you to graduation.  That is our goal.

  • All HHES students are subject to the policies, rules, regulations and expectations outlined in the Craven County School System 2014-2015 Student Policies and Regulations Handbook and the Havelock High School Student Handbook. HHES students are expected to govern themselves in an orderly and respectful manner AT ALL TIMES and uphold all Craven County and Havelock High School policies, rules and regulations.

  • According to CCS policy – All electronic devices are not to be seen, heard or used during school hours.  If your device is seen, heard or used between the hours of 2:45-6:45pm – IT WILL BE CONFISCATED FOR THE 10 DAY PERIOD dictated by Craven County School Policy.

  • You are not allowed to have your devices out once you enter into the 200 hundred hallway in the afternoon.  You cannot take them back out FOR ANY REASON until you exit the 200 hallway at 4:45 or 6:45 when you are LEAVING school.

  • Attendance is required of EVERY student EVERY day.  It is important that you are in attendance for each class session.  Parents or guardians will be contacted when students are absent.  Students who skip classes may be suspended.

  • When students arrive late, they must let Mrs. Camden know they are on campus so they will not be counted absent.

  • You must be in your scheduled class with your proper teacher at 2:45pm.  If you are in a class that you are not scheduled to be in, you may be suspended.

  • If you have a day class, you must go into the proper specified area (the cafeteria or the gym) during seminar unless you are required to attend the seminar for that class.

  • You should not arrive on school campus prior to 2:40pm.  At that time, you should report to the 200 hallway prior to class time at 2:45.  If, for some reason, you are on campus prior to 2:40, you must sit on the front terrace of the school.  You may not, for any reason, wander around the building or go into the cafeteria or gym or any other area of the school.

  • You are only allowed to use the restrooms on the 400 hallway and the water fountains on the 200 hallway while you are attending evening school except during the break. 

  • Students must provide their own transportation to and from HHS.  Your ride needs to be at the front of the school on time (6:45pm) to pick you up.

  • Evening school will follow the same schedule as HHS except for Friday; there will be no classes held on Friday or days that HHS has an early release day (November 26, 2014 and May 26, 2015 - there will be no evening school).

  • There will be no evening school during exam week; the evening school semester will end on the last day of regular day classes.  The last day for evening school will be announced as soon as the HHS exam schedule is completed.

Ends on May 26, 2016

Students will have until June 3, 2016 to complet are course work and requirements.

 

  • These days are in addition to the No School Days on the Craven County Schools calendar

  • Students must take care of ALL personal needs (telephone, phone calls, etc.) BEFORE your class begins. 

  • According to CCS policy, final exams will count as 25% of the final grade.  This applies to courses taken on Odyssey Ware as well as all EOC courses taken during evening school.

  • Students will be required to take two courses at a time.  When they complete one course, they will be enrolled into another course that is required to graduate from high school. 

  • Student may work on their course work at school as well as at home.  If students are absent, they may be denied access to their Odyssey Ware courses until they return to school.  They will be denied the privilege of working from home.

  • Course credit will be DENIED according to the Craven County Schools 10 Day Attendance Policy. Students can request an appeal for a waiver from Mrs. Camden due to extenuating circumstances.  There MUST be written documentation of the days in question.

  • There is NO Senior Success Program for evening school seniors.  Students who do not meet graduation requirements must attend Summer School and will not be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony.  They will be summer graduates upon completion of course credit.

  • The evening class sessions will be 2:45 until 4:45 and 4:45 until 6:45 on Monday through Thursday evenings.

 

During the Break:

  • During the ten minute break at 4:45pm, you must use the water fountains and restrooms in the cafeteria only.  You may not go to the bathrooms after returning to class for 30 minutes so be sure to use them on your break.

  • You must be with a teacher at all times.

  • You may talk and eat during the break but you may not play around, bang or drum on walls or objects, sing, throw things, shoot rubber bands, walk around the building or get loud and unruly in any way.

  • You must keep your hands to yourself.  You may not touch other people.

  • Walk quietly to and from break.

  • We will not have a concession stand this year.  Please BRING A SNACK TO EAT during break, if you would like one. 

  • You may not take your phones or any other electronic device out during the break for any reason; this includes “just checking the time.”  Electronic devices will be confiscated according to CCS policy if they are seen, heard or used for any reason.

 

In the Classroom:

  • Insubordination and disrespect of any sort towards any faculty member will not be tolerated.  There are appropriate and respectful ways to handle situations that arise and you are expected to use them.  Failure to do so may result in suspension and, possibly, arrest for disorderly conduct (See NC 14-288.4).

  • Student must complete 100% of all coursework and other requirements (Papers, Projects, Final Exams and attendance) in order to receive course credit.

  • You must be in the classroom that you have been scheduled to be in.  Knowing your schedule is your responsibility.  If you are in a class that you are not scheduled to be in, you may be suspended.

  • You MAY NOT bring food or drinks into any computer lab or classroom.  If you have food or drinks – they must be in your backpack/purse or outside of the classroom.  Fountain drinks in cups or any other type of drinks ARE NOT ALLOWED and must be thrown away prior to entering the classroom.  You may ONLY have bottled water with a cap.

  • You ARE NOT allowed to go to any other site on the computers except for the Odyssey Ware site.  If you need to Google something for a report or project, etc… - you MUST notify your teacher that you are doing so prior to leaving the Odyssey Ware site.

  • You ARE NOT allowed to sleep or put your head down to close your eyes or anything that resembles sleep at any time during evening school hours.

  • You MAY NOT play any games on the computers at ANY TIME!  Doing so may result in out of school suspension. 

  • Students must come to class prepared and ready to work productively throughout the class period.  You must be working on course work during the entire time you are in class.  You MAY NOT shut down your computers or stop working until your teacher directs you to do so at the end of class.

  • You cannot leave the class at the end of a period until your teacher dismisses you.  Do not get out of your seat or stand by the door, etc…

  • If you need to leave the class, you must raise your hand and ask your teacher for permission to leave.  You must go directly to your destination and then return directly back to class.  Failure to do so may result in suspension.

  • When your teacher allows you to go to the bathroom, you must only go to the restrooms on the 400 hallway only.  You may not go to any other bathrooms. 

  • The only water fountains you are allowed to use are the ones on the 200 hallway. 

  • Students are not allowed to throw ANY objects in evening school during class, breaks or at any other time.

  • No one will be allowed to leave a class session before it ends EXCEPT in an emergency.  Mrs. Camden must have permission, written or verbal, from parents/guardians before a student will be allowed to leave campus.

  • Students must NOT leave the building or the campus at any time during evening school hours.  Students will only be allowed to be in their assigned classrooms during the time they are in HHS.  It is prohibited to wander to other areas of the school.

 

Computer and Internet usage: 

  • Students will have access to the internet for instructional and educational use.

  • You may not play any games on the computer at any time

  • Students must have an Acceptable Uses Agreement form signed and on file at HHS

  • Internet usage is a privilege.

  • Mrs. Camden must have a current Craven County Internet Agreement Form on file.

  • Students may not download anything from the internet.

  • Students may not use outside storage devices such as flash drives, etc, without the teacher’s approval.

  • Students may only visit authorized sites (Odyssey Ware).

  • Plagiarism is against the law.  You cannot copy and paste answers from the internet into your assignments.

  • Students may not change any of the computer settings

  • Students must sign in before turning on their computers each day. Notify your teacher immediately if you have any questions (i.e. damage or changes) about your computer.

  • Students must not deface or damage the computers in any way.

 

Failure to comply with these and any other Havelock High School or Craven County Schools policies, rules, guidelines or expectations may result in out of school suspension, expulsion from Craven County Schools or arrest.
