Summer School 2017

Havelock High Summer School

 

  • Summer is offered at Havelock High School each year usually during the 3rd and 4th weeks of June. 

  • Classes are held Monday through Thursday for the two week period.

  • There are two sessions that students may attend.  

    • Morning Session - 8:00a.m. to  12:00p.m.

    • Afternoon Session - 12:30p.m. to 4:30p.m.

  • Students must be on time and must attend every day in order to earn credit for their course.  If a student is late or misses a day.  They will be dropped from the Summer School program and their course(s) will be scheduled to be retaken in the next school year.

  • Students make take up to two credit recovery courses (a course that has been taken and failed) during Summer School based on seating availablity.

  • Career and Technical Education courses are not offered in Summer School.

  • All courses are taken using the OdysseyWare Smarter Online Learning program.

  • Students are required to attend all sessions in which they are enrolled, as well as complete all course work with a score of 60 or above as well as any other necessary requirements in order to earn credit for their courses. 

  • There is a lunch break each day from 12:00p.m. to 12:30p.m.  Students may bring lunch from home and eat in the cafeteria.  Students may not leave campus if they are returning for the afternoon session.

  • Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from Summer School.

  • Summer School is offered free of charge to students.

  • All Havelock High School and Craven County Schools expectations, rules and policies apply to Summer School.

Criteria to Attend Summer School

 

  • A student may attend Summer School if he/she has failed a class with a final grade of 50 or above.  If the final grade for the class was less than a 50, the student is not eligible to attend Summer School.  He/She will be required to retake the course the next school year.

  • Any Senior needing credit to graduate has priority over all other students.  Then Juniors, Sophomores, etc...

  • There are only 50 seats in the morning session and 50 seats in the afternoon session. A student may only take one class per session.

  • A student may not take an EOC course (Math 1, English 2, Biology) unless they have taken and passed the NC State EOC Final Exam.

  • A student may apply for Summer School and may not be accepted to attend.  This is based on need, following the above criteria.

  • Students must have been enrolled in Havelock High School during the 2016-2017 school year in order to attend summer school.
